  • 2 pounds Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie

  1. Start by peeling and coring your apples. I find that using a potato peeler helps the job go faster. You can also use an Apple Slicer to make the job go a bit faster. I prefer our apples cut in to smaller pieces for an easier to eat pie. Cut them to your preference.
  2. Add flour, sugar, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
  3. Coat your apples well.
  4. Lay your crust out in your pie dish.
  5. Wet with a small amount of water and dust with sugar.
  6. Place your pie crust in the dish.
  7. Add your apple mixture to the pie crust.
  8. Put small teaspoons of butter in a couple locations on top of the apple mixture.
  9. For the Traditional Apple Pie
  10. Place your top pie crust on top of your pie.
  11. Using extra pie crust you can use a cookie cutter to make your Christmas Tree for the center.
  12. I used the pinch method from this video for learning how to the do the crust correctly:
  13. You will need to make small holes in the top of the pie. I used a the point of a steak knife for mine.
  14. Bake at 450 for first 15 minutes.
  15. Turn the oven down to 350 and bake for an additional 45 minutes.
