A few weeks ago the kids had the chance to head up to the University of Florida to watch a Florida Gators basketball game. The kids have started sports and wanted to see a bigger game of basketball. We decided to stay the night because we wanted to explore more of what the University of Florida had to offer. I wanted to share 5 things to do at University of Florida.
5 Things to Do at University of Florida
Go to a Game
Depending on what season it is, go to a game! There is just nothing to match the atmosphere at a Gator game! We had such an amazing time. The crowd goes crazy. Gator fans are all in for their team!
If you decide to take in a game, take in some of the extra experiences included with the game. Before the game head to alligator alley. We had the opportunity to meet some of the Florida Gators baseball team and get a signed poster. After the game kids 6th grade and under were able to shoot a free throw on the court. Talk about an amazing experience for any kid!
Visit the Bats
There are bat houses for Mexican Free-Tailed Bats. My husband’s uncle told me you want to go at sunset when all the bats go out to the lake to hunt for bugs. I will warn you that there is a very strong odor if you walk up the path to look into the bat houses. It reminded me of cat pee. That said, it was a neat experience to see the bat houses and would be a great time to research the Mexican Free-Tailed Bats before or after your trip.
Visit the football stadium.
During the day the football stadium is open if you go to the correct entrance. You can walk around and see the stadium up close and personal. Generally, there will be security preventing you from going on the field. Sometimes they will let you on the field like the day we went. My husband and son actually ran the full field. If you have a football fan in the house, this is a fun way to let them enjoy the stadium while it is empty.
Visit the Florida Museum of Natural History
My husband’s uncle insisted we visit the Florida Museum of Natural History. He really wanted to see the butterfly exhibit. I will be 100% honest with you. I didn’t initially understand why he wanted to go there. Then I stepped inside. Can I just tell you, it took my breath away! There were so many different butterflies flying around. Another beautiful thing was that there were people there who could explain the different butterflies and answer questions. The museum also had some incredibly detailed exhibits you won’t want to miss!
Eat at Piesanos!
The food and the atmosphere were amazing! Look at the size of that calzone. I had to take half of it home. Everything everyone in our party ordered came out perfect. We all left full and happy. It really was the perfect ending to our Florida Gators day.
