We have been working our way through Math this year and we have hit a wall with learning. Both kids are really struggling with skip counting. I decided to head to Pinterest to see what I can find. I have also put together a fun printable to help them learn. I’m going to share a few of the skip counting resources I found in case you have a child that is struggling as well.

How to Teach Skip Counting

Play Skip Counting Games

Online and offline skip counting games are a great way to engage kids in learning their skip counting numbers. This can include online features such as the two listed below. However, you can also use flash cards like the free printable below to let kids practice putting numbers in order based on skip counting. You can play a round of 2’s, 5’s, 4’s, or 9’s. Challenge your child to a speed drill or flip the number cards over and play a game of memory where you only keep the numbers that go with a certain set of numbers skip counting.

Use writing to learn

When practicing skip counting it can help to laminate printables like the ones above. Use dry erase markers to practice writing them. This will help with handwriting skills while helping a child to see the skip counting numbers in action. You can also have them practice writing out the sequence while covering up a few of the numbers to see if they can fill in the missing numbers.

I have not tried all of these but they are on the list of things to try until we find the right one to help them retain these numbers. If you have a tip or trick that isn’t here, leave a comment. I am open to suggestions to get these two skip counting easily.

Use Music to Teach

Skip counting songs are a great way to practice skip counting. Music is a fantastic way to engage children with learning. YouTube is filled with skip counting songs that are sure to help your child memorize their skip counting facts.
