Movies With Strong Female Leads

I do receive a Netflix DVD membership as part of their director program. However, all opinions are 100% my own.

My daughter is growing up before my eyes. It seems like just yesterday she was my baby. Today we put braces on her teeth. As she gets older, it is more and more important to me that she sees strong females in her life. While I have surrounded her with some amazing women, I also wanted to pick out some movies with strong female leads to add to my Netflix DVD queue.

Movies With Strong Female Leads

Star Wars The Force Awakens Movie Poster

Star Wars

It should be no surprise that Star Wars makes this list. There are some incredible women in this series that are definitely worth looking up to and learning from. While everyone is a Rey or Leia fan, Rose is quickly becoming my favorite. I absolutely loved her strength of character and strong convictions. I definitely appreciate the value of many of the characters in this series and what they can teach my daughter.

Moana DVD cover

Moana

You’ll have to humor my Disney side for this one! Moana featured a couple fantastic female leads that can’t be missed! There was a quiet strength and self-confidence to the grandmother’s character that can’t be missed! While we all can see the strength and determination of Moana, I also loved that there were beautiful lessons in the life of the grandmother. Moana did have a level of perseverance I hope my daughter one day achieves though! She didn’t know how to quit!

Harry Potter Dvd Cover

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is jam-packed with strong female leads. I love that there are good and evil ones to show that strength used the wrong way can be problematic. Dolores Umbridge is a great example of this. She is a strong leader but she is definitely not using her strength well. Characters like Hermione show that being smart can be as valuable if not more valuable than other skills. Mrs. Weasely teaches so many beautiful truths from the background. I definitely love this one for strong female leads.

Wonder Woman Dvd Cover

Wonder Woman

I won’t lie. When I saw the trailers for this, I was not interested. It just didn’t capture my interest. Then I watched it. It took my breath away. My daughter absolutely loved it and saw so many amazing traits in Wonder Woman she wanted to imitate. It really is a brilliantly done movie with a very strong female lead your daughter can definitely look up to.

Hunger Games DVD Cover

Hunger Games

While Katniss is the obvious view of a strong female lead, she is more of a flawed hero. I would challenge you to look at some of the background female characters. There are some seriously strong females. Whether you look to the quiet strength of Rue or the outspoken strength of Joanna, you are sure to find some strong female leads in this one!

Alice in Wonderland DVD cover

Alice in Wonderland

Alice has such a strength in the newer version that can’t be missed. I love that they let her work thru some of her own weaknesses and become a stronger character moving forward. I love that this series of movies shows her compassion as a strength. She definitely does a great job of seeing beyond her own circumstances.

Zootopia

When I was making this list, my daughter was shocked that I didn’t want to include Zootopia. In all fairness, she makes a great point. That bunny is one incredible female lead that shouldn’t be missed. She is a great female to show that not all people are perfect but perseverance definitely pays off!

Ella Enchanted

Ella Enchanted will always be one of my favorite movies. I just adore her character and I love the extent she goes to to maintain her integrity in spite of her situation. I love that she is such a strong female who is not chasing after a boy. Instead, she’s chasing the release froma prison she never should have been in.

What is your favorite movie with a strong female lead?
