Every school year I see a lot of my school friends looking at their school supply lists. This year my daughter will be going to a local charter school so I am looking at her school supply list. I have realized that a lot of these items fit with my homeschool school supply list. I decided it would be fun to put together a homeschool supply list for those homeschoolers who are desperate for a formal list.

Preschool Homeschool School Supply List

Your preschool list will be filled with lots of fun stuff. Do you want to know why? This is the year you should spend learning through play. Skip formal curriculum and spend some good time building your letters and numbers out of playdoh or experiencing Science through Sid the Science Kid. Things like lacing toys and busy bags can be great for fine motor skills to get your kids ready to write in the future. Even sensory play would be fantastic! My friend has an awesome sensory group for you!

Crayons
Markers
Playdough
Pencils – (Best pencils out there! Ticonderoga Pencils)
Shaving cream –
One of my favorite ways to let a preschooler play or have fun is to cover the walls of the shower with shaving cream and let kids draw shapes and letters. You could also do this on a cookie sheet.

Pattern Blocks – Looking for something fun to do? Try these pattern block lesson ideas!
Cookie Cutters – Baking cookies with a preschooler can be so fun and tracing the shape of a cookie cutter can be a great fine motor activity.
Paper
Internet for fun sites like starfall.com

Counting Bears
Coloring Books
Connect the Dots
Lacing toys
Puzzles – I typically go with dollar store puzzles or simple puzzles.
Sensory supplies

Kindergarten is a fun stage where they start to work on some school concepts but you can still do a lot of learning through play and crafting. Some of this will look similar to the preschool list as you are transitioning towards more schooling.

Teaching a child their letters or to read? Do it on a cookie sheet in shaving cream. It’s a really fun sensory experience.

As kids start to get older the school supply list will change. You will start to see where the learning abilities and learning styles are for your child. A lot of this list will vary based on what curriculum you use and how your child learns.

Pencils (Best ever are Ticonderoga Pencils)
Colored Pencils
Pens
Markers
Glue
Paper

Dissection Kits –
As you head into Elementary you will start doing things like owl pellet dissections and other fun projects.
Science Materials – There will be tons of Science projects in the coming year. Pick up some of the essentials to keep from making more store runs.
Binder
Pencil Case

Planner – While homeschoolers don’t have to follow the structure of school, a planner can be a good way to introduce children to organization.
Notebooks – Journaling and writing will become a bigger part of their lives more than at younger ages. You will need notebooks and paper so that kids can work on writing.
Ruler
Graph paper –
As you get into more advanced math, graph paper can be a great way to help your kids line up their problems.
Laminator – If you plan to work on drill sheets and other printables, a laminator can be your best friend.
Dry Erase Markers – If you need the laminator, you will also need the dry erase markers.
