Halloween Pinata Cake
Welcome to spooky month? Who I am kidding? Every month is spooky month around here. My son has a huge love for all things spooky, creepy, and just a bit Halloween. When he picked his cake colors for his birthday he chose orange and black on a white cake and I just knew I had to make a Halloween pinata cake for his birthday!
Making a Pinata Cake
Some of you are saying, this doesn’t look as easy as some of the recipes we’ve come to expect from you. I thought you said you made easy recipes that won’t stress me out! Let me just tell you how easy this really was to make! You are sure to make a delicious cake without all the stress! I know I did!
Halloween Pinata Cake Ingredients
I want to put a caveat here. I made more because I also wanted him to have fun with a few sheet cakes. (We love to do a sheet cake with the rest of the cake batter and let them have fun with cookie cutters.)
3 – White Cake Mixes
1 – White Icing
1 – Orange Funfetti Icing
1 – Dozen Eggs (You only need the whites)
1 & 1/2 cups oil (We used Canola)
3 & 3/4 cups of water
3 – Round Cake Pans
1 – Pack of Halloween Rings (I grabbed ours at the dollar store.)
1 – Container of Reeses Pieces Candy (I grabbed the dollar store movie theater candy box.)
1 – Pack of candy eyes for your cake (I picked up a pack of these at Wal Mart.)
Baking the cake
Start by adding your cake mixes to a big mixing bowl.
Add in your egg whites, oil, and water.
Using a hand mixer stir well.
Grease your pans. (I use a spray oil to coat the pans well.)
Pour your batter into 3 pans equally.
Bake at 350° for roughly 34 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
Remove from oven and let cool completely. (If you are in a hurry, put in the freezer for 15 minutes so the cakes can cool down.)
How to Build a Pinata Cake
Use a small bowl as a guide to cut a circle out of the middle of your cake. You will do this with 2 cakes. Do not do this with the third cake.
Place your bottom layer on a cake plate.
Add a layer of icing to the top of your cake ring.
Add your second layer to your cake.
Fill the center of your cake with goodies. We did candy and Halloween rings.
Add a layer of icing and then put your top cake on.
Add your layer of orange icing.
Add your sprinkles. There was no science to this. Instead, I just sprinkled them on where I liked them.
Add your eyeballs and a few extra spider rings for the look.
Cut into your cake for a surprise. Then serve and enjoy.
