I have been homeschooling for quite some time and I often hear from homeschool family members who ask what they should get for the homeschool mom in their life. Sometimes I laugh and say, “a break” but there are 10 gifts homeschool moms want for Christmas and some of them really can be found in the store. Is there something missing from my list? Leave me a comment. I would love to hear what is on your list.
10 Gifts Homeschool Moms Want for Christmas
Groupon is a great site for choosing a getaway or activity for a mom’s night out. A gift card to Groupon gives a homeschool mom the opportunity to pick out a fun getaway just for her. This can be even more fun if you attach a card that promises babysitting so she doesn’t have to worry about setting that up either.
A Good Book
Don’t underestimate the value of a really great book! I would recommend researching what is on her wish list though. Books are only a good gift if it’s a book she is hoping to read. For instance, right now I am hoping to read Winter, People of Ember, and I want to re-read The Shack. Getting me any of these might put a huge smile on my face. However, picking something from a genre or series I wouldn’t enjoy wouldn’t make a great gift. If you want to make it a little more special pair the book with a Starbucks gift card and the promise of a day of reading alone.
Clothing/Shopping Gift Card
Many of the homeschool moms I know will go to the store to shop for themselves and buy something for their children. Pick them up a gift card to get something for themselves and it may make their day. It could be a gift card to a store where she has a favorite outfit, books she enjoys, or artwork she loves.
Find out what’s on her dream list
We all have that list. It’s that list that has the things we would buy if we had the extra money that bills didn’t steal. For example, mine has a new camera, remodeled doors for the hallways, and a dishwasher. (Yes we handwash.) Find out what is on that dream list. it could be something pricey like my big list above or it could be something small like someone to make my shower curtain rod stay permanently up so it will never fall again. (It’s the little things people!)
Adult Coloring Books!
I didn’t understand these at first but I have come to love the Adult Coloring book trend! That could be because they made me a Doctor Who coloring book though. There is something so relaxing about sitting down with an adult coloring book and a good set of colored pencils to color. Find a coloring book that goes with an interest the homeschool mom you are buying for has, and pick it up for her. She will thank you.
Homeschool Convention Tickets
Has the homeschool mom in your life been dreaming of homeschool convention? This may be her year! Surprise her and pick up those tickets. If you have the extra funds, go ahead and book a nice hotel room for the night of convention. You will enjoy the time together and she will love it.
Deep Clean the House!
Clean it the way she would. If you have to, head to Pinterest and learn how to clean it but really deep clean it for her while she is out one day. It’s important to do it while she is out or she will feel obligated to help you. Friendly tip, if the sink still has dishes in it, she probably won’t see it as a clean house. Make sure those dishes are done too.
Gift Cards for her favorite Curriculum shop
This may sound like a small gift but it is far from it. There are times when a homeschool mom would love to buy certain curriculum, manipulatives, or other things and just can’t swing it. If you have the type of homeschool mom who longs for these things, this may be just the gift for her. Make sure she understands that this gift card is a free for all for her to get whatever she wants that will make her smile.
I am a HUGE fan of Amazon Prime! It gets you free two day shipping which is a huge help for any homeschool mom. You also have access to many great prime video options for free. I have fallen in love with Prime music as of late. I am able to listen to countless albums for free on my Amazon Prime account! This would be a great gift to give to any homeschool mom. I know I would love it if someone gifted me mine one year.
Memberships to places to enjoy with the Family
This can be more of a pricey gift but it could really mean a lot. Pick a local Science museum or attraction that your family can have fun at together through the year. It will mean a lot to the homeschool mom. Just make sure it is somewhere she can enjoy without being the one who ends up doing all of the work to make the day enjoyable.
