Repurpose Scraps with this Great Fall Wreath!

Yesterday R came to me and asked if we could craft together. She wanted to make something for fall. We sat down together and dreamed up this sweet Fall wreath.

You Will Need:
Fabric – Cut into strips. This can be any kind of fabric you like.
Glue Gun – You will need a few sticks of glue for this project.
Patience – This is a time using project. Don’t do this if you want something quick.
Posterboard, Cardboard, or a foam wreath circle.

Cut your board into a circle. I am sure you can make yours a lot more symmetrical than mine. I let my 6 year do it the way she wanted it.

Cut your fabric into strips of varying lengths. You will need to cut enough for your wreath and for the rosettes.

Before making your rosette fold your strip in half. Because R is 6 and she was having a hard time holding it, I glued all of hers in half for her so she would not have to hold them.

Roll your fabric strip. You will have to glue it every round or so to hold it tight. You can really use creative freedom here. If you want them tight you can pinch them tight. You can let the frayed end be on top or underneath. You can twist it as you wrap it for a different look as well.
**You know your child’s abilities. I did the gluing for Rachel so she didn’t get burned. I will leave it to you. If you think your child can safely glue you can let them.***

You will end up with something that looks like this. Glue it onto your wreath wherever you would like your rosettes to be.

After you have most of your rosettes on you will want to wrap your circle with fabric. I glued mine each time it went around to be sure it would hold well. You can use multiple colors or styles depending on the look you are going for.

After you finish wrapping your fabric add a few rosettes to cover up any evidence of putting the fabric on. Hang it up and enjoy. We love ours and it’s just the touch of fall we needed.

Doctor Who Handwriting Printable

We are a Whovian family through and through. When my kids were smaller we used these simple Doctor Who handwriting printable to work on handwriting skills. These are best laminated and used repeatedly. After all, who doesn’t want to help the Doctor get to his fez? My daughter was also learning about space so you will see a fun printable for knowing the difference between a comet and an asteroid. As always, all of my Doctor Who printables are completely free. I would never take from the Whovian universe. I am simply trying to help little Whovians learn.

Do you have a young Whovian in the house? These Doctor Who Handwriting printables may be just what you need to get them working on handwriting.

10 Things to do Before you start your Homeschool Year!!

It’s that wonderful time of year again. It’s time to start school! If you homeschool you are watching all of your friends buy school supplies and uniforms and prep for school. While we may not need to do the same things to get ready, there are ten things I think are essential to do before starting the Homeschool year.

  1. Pray over your school year – I believe very strongly that you need to cover big undertakings with prayer. There is no great undertaking than educating your child. You may think you are teaching Math but they are learning a lot more as they stay home.
  2. Send in your Letter of Intent – In my state (Florida) a letter of intent is necessary when a child reaches the age of 6. This is a simple way of telling the school board you are choosing to homeschool. Send it as close to the start of the year as your evaluations will be do 1 year from the date you send it.
  3. Take Back To School Pictures – We are headed out to do ours some time in the next week. It is amazing how much will change over the school year. Take pictures. Whether that means taking them on a phone and backing them up, using your point and shoot, or hiring a professional make sure to make this a priority.
  4. Pick and order your curriculum – If you are using a curriculum you should have it ordered and sitting at your house or en route pretty soon. Some of these sites take up to two weeks to ship curriculum.
  5. Hit up Pinterest! – Seriously, there is a board for everything you could possibly want to teach. Don’t let mom guilt or competition get you but it is a great place to find fun ideas! I have a board with some of my homeschool ideas you can Check out!
  6. Clean House – Summer is crazy and busy and fun. This is great but wreaks havoc on your house. Giving the house a thorough cleaning before you kick off the year can make all the difference. This also includes getting rid of clutter. A cluttered learning environment can make it harder to focus.
  7. Out With the Old! – It’s time to take out all of last year’s homeschool work and get ready to move in the new stuff. If it is not applicable to this school year file it away for record keeping.
  8. Get those School Supplies – You may not need the official list schools use but you may need a golf ball for gravity or a ton of art supplies for a huge project. Grab these items now while the sales are on.
  9. Join up – If you plan to join a homeschool group or PE co-op now is the time to start joining. Many of these have meetings weeks before school to register new members.
  10. Have Fun – Soon you are going to be back in the grind of school. Granted, school is fun, but use some of your last weeks of school to make time for some fun. Catch a movie, go fishing, head to the library for games and puzzles. Whatever makes your summer fun, do a little more before school starts.

I am sure you have some great tips. What do you do to get ready for back to school?
