Books for 11 Year Olds

My daughter has eclectic tastes. Not all of these books will work for every 11 year old. That said, they are her favorites and she loves them. The quotes are here because I asked for her opinion on each book.

Upside Down Magic

If you have a reluctant reader, this may be a great series to start with. It’s an easier read and it’s packed with some fun story elements.

“I love this book because it celebrates the differences that people have. It is a quick read.”

Land of Stories

“I love Land of Stories because there is a boy and girl main character. There is room for everyone to love a character. It is based on the fairy tales. Everyone wonders what happens after the fairy tales. This book answers that question. There are also a lot of good quotes and it is very funny!”

Fairy Tale Reform School

“This is a very good book because it is fast paced and is very descriptive. I really like the way the describe the clothes, monsters, and characters.”

Kane Chronicles

We listened to the audiobook for this one and loved it! It’s such a great story line packed with really fun characters.

“I like it because it is very fast paced. The author is brilliant. It is very funny and I like that it rotates between the two kids. The audiobook is really good!”

Ever After High

“This is a fun addition to the show. I watched the show before I read the book. It is more descriptive and it has more details.”

Pegasus

“I like that it has the mythology of the Roman mythology. You don’t get to see a lot of the Roman mythology when you learn about the pegasus.”

Who Was series

“Mom made me read non-fiction. This is a good compromise because it is very interesting. They have these about many different people. I learned a lot from this one. They also have neat pictures.”

Divergent

“It’s very fast-paced. I liked it because it kept you interested. It kept you on the edge of your seat.”

Hunger Games

“You should read Hunger Games because it is an exciting book and very descriptive. I could see the book in my head as I read.”

Harry Potter

We are a Harry Potter family to the core! This series was a favorite of mine as a kid and I love that she adores it now!

“This is a great first chapter book. It is a funny book filled with amazing characters.”
