Does someone in your house love Science? I know in our house R is obsessed with Science. She wants to know how things work and why they work. Maybe you have a homeschooler or a spouse who is Science obsessed. Maybe you are the Science lover in your household. Whatever the case may be, don’t stop reading! This post is for you.
I want to introduce you to Dr. Geek’s Lab!
What is Dr. Geek’s Lab?
“It’s the 21st Century. Ever wondered what happened to all those inventions, conveniences, and other concepts the future was suppose to bring? Well, so have we. Here, at Doctor Geek’s Laboratory, we will explore all the realms of applied geekdom. We will examine the future that was, the future that is, and the future that has not yet come to pass.
Why I love Dr. Geek!
If you have followed my blog for more than a second you know that I am a homeschool mom. With a daughter who is in love with all things Science I am going to need to at least become enamored with Science. Problem is, I get so bored reading the text books. I need to make it fun! If you have a teenager or a hands on learner you know EXACTLY what I mean. This is where Dr. Geek’s Lab comes into play! They do these AWESOME podcasts where they discuss many Science related topics. I just listened to my first one and it was fun and informative!
There is just enough humor to offset the Science. I know this is going to sound impossible for those who aren’t big on Science but they have made Science FUN!
Because I am a HUGE Doctor Who Fan it only makes sense that I started with the Podcast about Putting the T.A.R.D.I.S.into Orbit Really! First of all, how cool is it that that is even possible?! I thought I was tuning into a podcast about Doctor Who and ended up learning a ton. I learned about payload, Free Space, and the process of getting something into space. I won’t spoil it for you though.

Why should it matter to you?
Science is not being prioritized like it used to be. In fact, I have spoken to many teachers who say that Math and Reading are taught primarily and if there is room Science is taught. Children are questioners and imaginers by nature. They learn to talk and then they learn to ask why. Science is the healthy way to use those why moments! It teaches your children to question things, figure out an answer, and if there is a problem to find a solution. If we remove this way of thinking, if we quiet the why’s, we are setting ourselves up for a boring future. The why askers of this age will be the inventors of the future.
Take some time and invest it into Science. It will pay off big in the long road. Spending some time listening to Doctor Geek’s lab may help you answer these questions!
Because I love Doctor Who I WILL be doing a series of posts about the T.A.R.D.I.S.into Orbit Really project and how you can use it to teach your children about space! I am so excited about this. I have a feeling I will learn just as much as my kids will!
