How to Make Home Fries in Air Fryer
When making homemade fries in the air fryer it’s important to keep in mind that preparation will vary depending on your intentions. You can make extra for the freezer if you would like. For now, let’s discuss the process of preparing air fryer home fries that you will use for dinner on the same day that you prepare them.
Wash and dice potatoes
Start by washing your potatoes. I find that a sponge with a rough side is the best option for washing off the dirt from the peels.
After washing your potatoes, you will want to dice them into fries. I find that if you slice them into circles that are about an inch thick it makes it a lot easier to cut them into the size of a french fry. However, you can really cut these any way you like.
Season your home fries
Start by adding your diced potatoes to a large mixing bowl. Add your oil and toss to coat completely. Once your potatoes are coated with a light layer of oil add all of your seasonings. You will want to toss them in the seasoning to make sure they are evenly coated in seasoning.
Set your air fryer
When cooking home fries there is a trick to cooking them the right way. Add your prepared potatoes to the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 400° and cook for 8 minutes. Open the air fryer and shake it really well. Then you will set the air fryer to 400° again and cook for an additional 8 minutes.
** If you want your fries more crispy, add a bit more time. Please don’t skip the step where you shake them or you will not get an even cook on your home fries.
Serve and enjoy
Once you finish cooking your fries, serve and enjoy them.
Freezing Air Fryer Home Fries
When you finish cooking your home fries, you may want to freeze them for a future meal instead of eating them at this point. Start by flash freezing your fries on a cookie sheet. You will put them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. This will remove the moisture from the fries so they don’t stick together when bagged.
Once you have flash-frozen your fries, add them to a freezer bag or container and freeze for future use.
How long to cook frozen home fries in the air fryer
When you are ready to prepare your frozen home fries, you will want to add them to the basket of your air fryer. Set it to 400° and cook for 8 minutes. Check the temperature throughout and see how they are. From here, I recommend adding the time until you get the desired warmth for the fries as they are already fully cooked.
